HARBOR FAMILIES

King of Glory is excited to be partnering with Lifeline Children’s Services through its Harbor Families program that focuses on keeping families together. We do this by offering short-term hostings where volunteer host families will temporarily take in vulnerable children whose parents are in the midst of crisis. While children are being hosted, there are volunteer Family Navigators whose role is to support and encourage the placing parent as they seek to find stability for their family and work to resolve the crisis they are experiencing.

What is Harbor Families?

Harbor Families is an amazing ministry program offered by Lifeline Children’s Services that gives Christians a way to serve as the hands and feet of Jesus to the people in our community. It’s been proven to not only change the lives of vulnerable families in our area but also activate Christians live out their faith more fully.

King of Glory is looking to find willing people to serve in the following ways: Host Families, Family Navigators, and Family Supporters. All volunteers serving in Harbor Families will be trained through Lifeline Children’s Services and will be supported by King of Glory's Ministry Captain and staff. Below is an overview of these three serving opportunities.

Host Families are Christians who desire to voluntarily host children temporarily in their home while their parents work toward stability. Host families should plan to meet the daily needs of the child(ren) while primarily seeking to reflect Christ’s love and teach the hope of the gospel.

Family Navigators are Christians who desire to support the placing parent as they work through the crisis that is requiring their child to be placed into care. Family Navigators can help placing parents connect with the resources in our community that will assist them in their needs. Family Navigators are not expected to physically be with the placing parent at all times but rather be available and intentionally offer support. This person will also connect with the Host Family to make sure they have their basic needs met.

Family Supporters are volunteers who desire to meet the tangible needs of the children who are placed into care and sometimes can offer tangible support to placing parents if appropriate. Oftentimes when children are placed into care, they come with very little. Family supporters are willing to pick up a package of diapers or maybe lend toys to a young child to play with as they are under the care of their host family. They might even provide a meal or two for the host family as they get settled!
