AVANTARA NORTON
King of Glory Church has a special serving opportunity at Avantara Norton, a care center located in central Sioux Falls. The goal is to build relationships with the nearly 100 residents who live at Avantara.
As a volunteer, you will pursue a 1-on-1 visiting relationship with a resident with whom you have found a special connection. These visits can be done in a variety of ways and on a very flexible time schedule. The activities director at Avantara will provide you with information and areas of interest for a resident who is interested in receiving regular visits. Some examples of time spent visiting include: playing games, crafting, painting nails, reading books/Bible, praying with the resident, assisting them with facility activities such as Bingo.
In addition to meeting with residents, there are a couple of special volunteer opportunities available at Avantara. One opportunity is helping with Bingo. Volunteers are needed for calling numbers, sitting with residents who need assistance with their Bingo card and pushing the prize cart around to the winning residents.
Another opportunity is providing items for the Country Store. Residents earn “Bingo Bucks” when they play Bingo. They are then able to redeem their “Bingo Bucks” at the Country Store and exchange them for items, which are provided by individuals and groups. Items that are needed include pre-packaged snacks, cans of pop, knick knacks (preferably not breakable), toothpaste, mouthwash, body sprays for men and women, word searches, word jumbles, pens, highlighters, magazines, large print books, craft supplies such as fake flowers, painting supplies, easy craft projects, men’s clothing (sweatpants, sweatshirts, t-shirts) sizes L-3XL.
