Children’s Curriculum Chosen

A committee, appointed by the Leadership Team,  has completed its work reviewing the children's curriculum.  The goal was to choose a curriculum that was theologically and biblically accurate and would shape King of Glory's programming for years to come.

The curriculum is for King’s Kids on Wednesday nights as well as Kid’s Worship on Sunday mornings.

Below is a description of the curriculum selected for children in preschool through fifth grade.

King’s Kids (Wednesday Nights)

Preschool - 3rd Grade: “The Biggest Story”
God‘s story is the most beautiful story ever told, and there is nothing more important for our children than imparting to them a rich and vibrant gospel.  Children are regularly hearing messages that seek to undermine a biblical worldview, foundational beliefs about what it means to be created in God‘s image, the reality of sin, the importance of the local church, and even the basic difference between right and wrong. Christian parents, church leaders, and Sunday school teachers need to be committed to faithfully declaring the good news of the Lord to the next generation.  The Biggest Story curriculum is based on The Biggest Story Bible Storybook by Pastor Kevin DeYoung. It uses both digital and printable components to teach kids key Bible stories from Genesis through Revelation. We will be using this curriculum for kindergarten through third grade.

Our goal is to help them understand God‘s plan to redeem the world through his son, Jesus Christ, by making the teaching of Bible basics to kids easy, thoughtful, and engaging. The curriculum is easily adaptable to fit the age of the child and has multiple resources for families to use at home as they spend time in God‘s word together. All of scripture is pointing to Jesus: who he is and what he has done. All of these resources are designed to connect the gospel to each individual story, to proclaim that Jesus is the snake crusher and he is the Redeemer of the world.

4th & 5th Grade: New City Catechism
The New City Catechism was designed to teach students the core doctrines of the Christian faith.  Each catechism question and answer is provided along with a Bible lesson related to the catechism question, discussion, and questions with answers, a virtue application, a memory activity, and a closing prayer time.

Kid’s Worship (Sunday Mornings)

Pre-K - 3rd Grade: Hearts Alive Children’s Church
The Hearts Alive Children's Church curriculum introduces children to the structure of a worship service while also coming away with a Jesus-centered understanding of the Scriptures. The Hearts Alive Children's Church curriculum offers a weekly group worship service designed to facilitate the transition to "big church" for children Pre-K through 3rd grade. It will include elements used in our adult worship service:  worship songs, prayer, profession of faith, Bible scripture message, and activities to reinforce the message.

In August, each family will receive a special curriculum package containing the following items:

  • One ESV Storybook Bible

  • One “The Biggest Story” Bible Storybook

  • One “The Biggest Story” ABC

  • One “The Biggest Story” Family Devotional

  • One New City Catechism

  • One New City Catechism Family Devotional
