What a great night being able to celebrate and be thankful for our new location! There is still plenty of work to be done but is was so fun being able to meet at our new home for the first time!
Here are a couple of upcoming events:
Youth Worship Night - February 21st. This is another Saturday worship night for the youth to come together. Whether your youth is interested in learning some basics on the guitar, bass guitar, piano, or maybe even drums, or simply wants to come and be a part of the fellowship through singing or listening. Really a great time to continue to build upon the relationships and community already in place within the youth at King of Glory.
Go for the Gold Family Event! Join us on Friday, February 27, from 6:00-8:00pm for an evening of Olympic themed food, t-shirt art, and games. We will also take a look at 1 Corinthians 9:24 and learn how we are to run the race of faith! This event is for the entire family! To Register for this event, sign up on the form below and indicate each family member's t-shirt size.
Student Ministries Mission Trip: Coming up this summer we are going to be doing something a little different by staying in Sioux Falls for our Mission Trip. I am really excited for this opportunity to serve our community of Sioux Falls in many ways. The main focus will be on a VBS outreach. This will be in partnership with King of Glory's VBS but will also have a focus on trying to reach out to a multi-cultural group through Kings Kloset, our multi-cultural partnership with Pastor Samuel's church, as well as some open invitations to different areas of Sioux Falls. Along with this focus, we will partner with several other ministries in Sioux Falls to get a wide variety and idea of the mission work being done here in our own city.
Pickerel Dates are out for this coming summer camps. Senior high (entering into 9th grade - graduating 12th grade) is June 21st - June 27th. Junior high camp (entering 6th grade - entering 8th grade) July 26th - July 31st. For more information go to bllbc.wordpress.com
Wednesday night Recap:
In Junior High we went through a recap of the Fall semester as well as our series on prayer. These guys seriously have a great memory! We then had an open discussion on what they would like to study next followed by what they would like to see in terms of our youth room. While there may have been a wide variety of "over the top" ideas, they were extremely engaged and excited to invision what we could make our youth room look like (they talked so much we didn't even get to the game I had planned). It is so fun to watch the students interact and share with one another. Coming up, we will begin to look at the life of Jesus and some of the miraculous works that He performed. This was one of the topics that your students had brought up so I am excited to dive into scriptures where they are interested!
In Senior High we went through the second session in our dating/sex talk. This week was truly focusing in on the good and bad that comes through sex. I intentionally tried to make this extremely basic and focused on multiple scripture passages that speak on the pros and cons of sex. There were three main points that I wanted to stress. First, sex is a good thing created for God for us to reproduce, enjoy, and partake in marriage between a single man and woman. God had a great plan for us through sex. Second, just like many good things, we as humans can mess it up. We looked at scripture that spoke honestly about the judgment that comes through sexual immorality and adultery. Knowing that even though sex was a created thing by God, He had a specific plan for how to go about partaking in this act. And finally, I wanted to stress that God's grace is enough. Jesus has come and died for our sins, and wherever we stand in terms of sex in our lives, He calls us to Himself; to repent and believe. We ended the night with Galatians 5:16-26. There is a battle that we are all facing with flesh and Spirit. As followers of Christ we are called to surrender ourselves, our flesh, to walk and abide in the Spirit. It goes back to the first lesson of this year: It is not about us, but completely about God. Moving forward, we left next week for further questions your students have (and there were some very good, and hard, questions).
Please continue to be praying for this youth ministry. For the students as they face this real battle between flesh and spirit. Pray for one another as parents as you walk together in parenthood. And please pray for those who volunteer and help with the youth ministry as we try to be a light and example for your students.
