Sept. 2, 2018: Philippians 3 Part II

Philippians 3

  • 3:50 - Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. vs 12-14

    • Upward call of God =  “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.” vs 20-21

    • Our hope is this world is transformed when Jesus comes again.

  • 7:40 - God’s made his will for your life crystal clear.

    • And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good,[h] for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. Romans 8:28-30

    • Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will. Ephesians 1:4-5

  • 10:30 - Take your focus off of when & where and focus on the how.

    • Holiness reflects how you go about life.

  • 12:25 - You get to reflect the image of Jesus Christ.

  • 14:55 - Why are we struggling to conform to the image of Jesus Christ?

    • We have no team around us.

      • Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us. vs. 17

      • Who are you pouring into?

    • We have no intentional concentration.

      • We need a team around us to help sustain discipline.

    • We’re confused in our allegiances.

      • But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ vs. 20

      • Our citizenship in heaven directs our citizenship in America.

      • Only Jesus Christ deserves all of our allegiance.

  • 28:00 - Love with wisdom.

  • 32:30 What’s the one thing I can do this week to bring my life in alignment with Jesus?
