April 27th Update

Good morning!

We have finished our final week in April and there are only two weeks left of King’s Kids on Wednesday nights. What an amazing year as we continue to see kids coming excited and ready to learn from God’s Word. We even had a few new faces last night as our kids coming continue to tell their friends about our Wednesday nights.

Upcoming Event:
Reminder that our Family event is next Friday night from 6:00 – 8:00 at King of Glory. The final day to sign up is this Sunday. WE will be enjoying some fun tv game show type games as families work as a team through each station. Along with that, families are encouraged to dress up together. It can be as simple as wearing the same shirt, or as creative as coming decked out in a family theme. Have fun with it and come enjoy a fun night at KOG.

Prek/K  room: Last night our young ones talked about obeying God. Diving into John 14:15-17 15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper,[a] to be with you forever,17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be[b] in you.” The good news in all of this is that we do not have to do this by our own strength. God also sends us a helper – the Holy Spirit. As our kids continue to learn about the love of God and grow in their love for Him, they will continue to desire to follow His commandments. Working off of last week’s lesson, last night kids learned a few ways in which we can respond to God’s love for us; through prayer, reading God’s word, worshiping Him, caring for one another and growing in community with other believers.

1st – 5th Grade: Last night was week two of our series on Perseverance. This week, our elementary kids talked about persevering, allowing others witness encourage and strengthen us. Hebrews 12:1 - Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. Our bottom line is: when life gets hard, remember how others persevered. We are not alone in our struggles, sins and pain. There are others who have gone through the same thing or something similar and we can find strength through the witnesses of others seeking to honor God with their lives. Finally the memory verse for last night came from Isaiah 40:31 “But those who trust the LORD will receive a new strength. They will fly as high as eagles. They will run and not get tired. They will walk and not grow weak.” Our God has given us hope and a strength that we can cling on to as we continue to follow Him.

As we come to our final two weeks, please continue to pray for our kids coming on Wednesday nights. Pray for the hope, joy and peace we have in Jesus encourage them to seek God in their lives. Pray also for one another as you continue to set an example for your children.

If you have any questions or if you would like any information on what is going on in the children ministry here at King of Glory, please feel free to contact me anytime.

April 20th Update

Good morning!

We are down to our final three weeks after last night! What an amazing year it has been. It is so fun looking back and seeing how kids grow and connect with one another and with the adult leaders here on Wednesday nights. There are plenty of kids who came on the first day shy and unsure of the whole Wednesday night experience. However, as they have continued to come they have opened up and allowed us to get to know their personalities.

Preschool/Kindergarten: This week our little ones went through the first and greatest commandment – To love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength (Mark 12:30). Our kids just finished learning of the greatest love story ever told. That our God would send His one and only Son into this world for us! Jesus would pay for our sins. However, He also rose from the dead, leaving His tomb empty! Our God has conquered our sins for us! Now, we have the opportunity to respond to this great love of our Father. And first and foremost we are called to love God! Believing in Jesus leads us to love Jesus more than anyone or anything, having Him as our priceless treasure. Our kids saw an example of this call to love Jesus through a story of a rich young man in Matthew 19:16-30. Where our Treasure is our heart is also. Our prayer is that our kids begin to see the treasure they have in Jesus!

Our 1st – 5th grade students began a new series “Hanging in Tough: Perseverance”. We start off our series on perseverance with Jesus’ last words before He ascends back to heaven. In Matthew 28:20, we have the huge task Jesus gave His disciples to share His story throughout the world. In Acts 1-2, we discover how Jesus’ sent the Holy Spirit at Pentecost to help the disciples accomplish that task. The Bottom Line for this week is: When life gets hard, remember God is with you. Because of the Holy Spirit in our lives, God is always with us. No matter what happens, we can continue to persevere because God can give us the strength we need to continue.

As we come close to the end of our year, please continue to be praying for our kids on Wednesday nights. Continue to pray for God’s love and truth to be made known to each of them! And pray for the strength and perseverance it takes to continue to follow Jesus even when times get hard. Finally, pray for one another as you all in the middle of raising these children!

If there are any questions or if you would like any further information on the last three weeks, please feel free to contact me anytime!

Blessings!

March 9th Update

Good morning!

I just want to once again praise God for the excitement our kids have about Wednesday nights. We continue to see new faces and hear about kids inviting their friends to join them. Along with that, while there is a lot of enthusiasm and some distracting energy, I have been so encouraged hearing from our small group leaders. Our kids are continuing to have fun while learning and remembering the Word of God.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS! After many discussions and ideas we have set dates for our VBS camp this summer. VBS this year will be held August 7 (Sunday) to 11th (Thursday) during the evening hours. We will be doing this years Group VBS titled “Cave Quest”. Along with this, our VBS will look similar to the last year as we continue to seek to reach out past King of Glory. One of the main factors for moving our VBS to August is the hope to have a smooth transition from an outreach of VBS to our weekly Wednesday night King’s Kids next fall. Instead of waiting for 2 months before kids programming begins once again. Along with this, we are starting to plan later this year since we do have a few extra months! If you are interested in being a part of the planning/preparing team for our VBS please let me know!! I am really excited for the opportunities that may present themselves with this years outreach VBS!

This week in the preschool/Kindergarten room, our lessons shifted over to the lead up to Easter week. Throughout this curriculum, a common theme of people, including us, falling short of God’s call has been clear. Along with that, we also learn of an amazing love and example through Jesus Christ. This week we see that Jesus knows what is coming soon. He has told His disciples about the betrayal and what would happen to Him, and yet He continues to be patient and loving as He does not turn away from His mission. Wednesday night, our little ones looked at the story of Jesus praying in Gethsemane. Jesus turns to His Father in heaven and asks for God’s will to be done. At the same time that we see Jesus being strong and faithful, we also see the disciples fall asleep. We know that we are weak but we know that God is strong. As we get ready for this Easter season, our kids will continue to learn about the humble and loving heart that Jesus has for sinners.

In our 1st – 5th grade room we finished our theme of Cooperation. We have gone through working together to;  get God’s work done, help someone else succeed, and to change someone’s life. This week we looked at how working together can point people to Jesus. In our final week, we look at how the Early Church worked together in Acts 2:42-47 to help those who were in need. And when they cooperated, people noticed.  When other people saw all of these different kinds of people working together, they came to know Jesus. Our kids learned that even at a young age, they can too can work together to point others to Jesus. Along with this, our kids got to see an example of how they have already done this together. Awhile back, our kids worked together to fill backpacks for kids in Liberia. Those backpacks have arrived and Pastor Samuel was able to share some pictures with us to show the excitement and joy the kids in Liberia had when they received them. There is a power, strength and success when we work together! Ecclesiastes 4:9 “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil”.

As our kids continue to come and learn about truths from Scripture, please be praying for the Word of God to form their thoughts now at a young age. Pray the excitement and energy to continue to come and grow in relationship with each other and with God continues. And pray for one another as you all go through this stage of life together.

If there are any questions about our King’s Kids ministry, or if you would like to know more about what Wednesday nights look like, please feel free to contact me anytime!

February 24th Update

Good afternoon everyone!

I want to send a huge thank you to all our volunteers and leaders for our Wednesday nights King’s Kids program. It is such a blessing to have so many people here on Wednesdays and last night it was even more obvious for me as I was at home sick. I also know that there are several of you who were or are home sick with your children. Praying for all of you and your health!

Mark your calendars! Friday May 6th we are hosting a family event here at King of Glory! As we continue to get closer to the 6th keep your eyes peeled for more information!!

Wednesday night recaps:

Pre-Kind – This week in the younger classroom our kids continue to learn about the mission and Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus has come to proclaim His message to all people, revealing that the good news He has is for people of all nations through Faith in Jesus Christ. Looking at the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman (John 4:4-26, 39-42), we see that there was a clear separation from Jew’s and Samaritans that was well know at the time. Still, through the interaction with Jesus and this woman, we learn that Jesus has come to bring salvation for all people. The separation and differences will be put aside. This is great news for us as we hear that God’s salvation is for us as well! Jesus has come to make it possible for us to be sons and daughters of God!

1st-5th Grade: This week our kids had their second week of our Cooperation theme – working together to get more done than we can do alone. This week our kids learned that we can work together to help someone else succeed. Learning from Exodus 17:8-13, we see that Moses even needed help at times. And through the help of Aaron and Hur Moses was able to keep the staff raised up allowing his people to win the war. Often times, I think we forget that it is ok to ask for help. We are not required to be the best or able to do everything alone. Working with others can bring a much great success than trying to do everything on our own. Ecclesiastes 4:9 “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil”.

As we continue to go through these two curriculum with our kids here at King of Glory, please continue to pray for our kids, our leaders, volunteers, and for one another.

If there are any questions, or if you would like to know more about what we are going through on Wednesday nights please feel free to contact me anytime.

Blessings

February 3rd Update

Good morning!

REMINDER – next week we will not be having our King’s Kids program. There is an Ash Wednesday service starting at 7:00.

First Communion – Our First Communion process is starting up on Wednesday February 17th and we will be meeting at 5:30 that evening. In the past, we have offered this to our 4th and 5th grade students. We also believe that this is a parent lead decision and if you feel like you and your child are ready you are also invited to join us through this First Communion process.  Our First Communion will be held on March 20th at the 10:15 service.

Wed. Night Recap

Prek/K – this past Wednesday our kids continued to learn and see Jesus’ ministry grow. The concept of Jesus coming to save sinners is once again the main theme. This week the kids looked at the story of Jesus calling Levi the tax collector. Many of the religious people saw this as a huge mistake. So many times the question had to arise – why wouldn’t Jesus come and befriend the “good” people. Jesus answer to these questions was not expected by many. Luke 5:32 “I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” Our faith and salvation does not come from our own works and this is a good thing! Jesus has come and offered salvation to us!

1st-5th – Wednesday night was the final night of our theme of self-control. This final week we looked at Proverbs 4:23. The bottom line is to use God’s words to guide our thoughts. We then looked back at the different verses and lessons from this series.  God can give us the power to control yourself, pause before you lose your temper, select your words carefully, and know when to stop. Each of these lessons are one way we can allow God’s word to guide us as we continue to grow and learn! Now as we move on to our new series, our kids will begin to see that when we work together we can do more than when we work alone!

January 27th Update

Greetings,

I want to start off with a quick update. Wednesday February 10th, we will not be having our King’s Kids program. This is Ash Wednesday and we are encouraging our families to attend our service starting at 7:00 p.m. We will be meeting next Wednesday and will continue throughout the lent season starting back on February 17th.

Last night was once again filled with energy and excitement! Things have seemed to smooth out with our changes that took place at the beginning of this new year. While our Prek/Kind room continued on in their curriculum, our 1st -5th grade students began a new curriculum.

Prek/Kind room last night continued to go through the life of Jesus. They have learned about the beginning of Jesus’ ministry, and last week went through the call of the 12 disciples. Seeing Jesus continue to show He has come to be our Savior. This week was no different. While there were plenty of people who did not understand or believe Jesus’ teaching that He was God’s anointed Son, Jesus showed them through His miracles. Jesus showed the awesome power of God through His many miracles.  Through healing, feeding thousands, and showing power of the spiritual world. Last night our kids went through the story of Jesus healing the paralytic. While many expected Jesus to simply heal His physical disability, Jesus also showed the power of the soul, emphasizing the bigger problem for the man – his sin. Jesus came to forgive sinners, which included you and I! What an awesome story of a healing both physically and of one man’s soul.

In 1st- 5th grade, our kids continued in the series of self-control. This week the lesson was Just Hit Stop. Proverbs 25:16 “If you have found honey, eat only enough for you, lest you have your fill of it and vomit it.” This is a pretty detailed but simple verse to understand. Honey is not a bad thing, but you need to know when to stop eating. This is also true of so many other things we fill our stomach, our time and energy with. Video games, food, sports, activities.. these are all good things. However, if we put all of our time and energy on one of these things it can become a problem. We all know that if we overeat we will not feel great. Sometimes things that we spend too much time on are not as obvious. However, the bottom line for this week is Know When to Hit Stop! We all have a struggle with self-control at times, but as we continue to practice self-control, the struggle becomes easier.

As we continue to work through these two different curriculums, if there are any questions about our children’s ministry program, or if you would like more information, please feel free to contact me any time!

January 20th Update

Greetings!

This past Wednesday was our third week back after Christmas break and I think our kids are getting settled into the new changes that came along with the new year. It is so fun to see the kids excited and engaging in the music, lesson and small group time throughout the night!

Prek/Kindergarten – This Wednesday, our kids continue to look at Jesus’ life here on earth. After going through His birth and the beginning of Jesus’ ministry, last night the prek/kind room saw how Jesus called men to follow Him. These men were nothing special, and Jesus did not need their help or gifts. Rather, we see how Jesus comes to save sinners. These 12 had one common characteristic – they were all helpless sinners. Jesus continues to show His intention here on earth; He has come to save sinners. This may be one of the hardest parts for us to embrace, but we can do nothing on our own to earn salvation. There is only one way and we must rely completely on Jesus to help us.

1st – 5th grade – Wednesday night continued in the 3rd of 5 lessons on Self Control. Wed our kids learned that we must SELECT our words carefully. Proverbs 21:23 – whoever keeps his mouth and tongue keeps himself out of trouble. Our words make a huge difference in the relationships we have. Wed. night the kids got to see an example what happens with our words. Using a tube of toothpaste our kids squeezed it out as fast as they could. The next challenge was to try to get the toothpaste back into the tube. It is nearly impossible to get toothpaste back in once it is squeezed out. Our words are much like this example. We cannot take them back once we have spoken. Yes there is forgiveness and you can work through any hurt that words may cause, but you are not able to unsay something. This is why the bottom line for the night “SELECT our words carefully”.

As we continue to move into this new year, if there are any questions, if you would like more information about our Wednesday night program or if you would like to get involved in one of volunteer roles; please contact me anytime!

January 6, 2016

Greetings!

It is hard to believe the new year is already here! With the new year there were also plenty of new changes during our first King's Kids last night. We started providing a meal at King of Glory for our kids coming to our Wednesday night programming. We had several new faces last night and it was so fun to get back into the Wednesday night routine. Once 6:45 came around there was also plenty of new changes for both the preschool/Kindergarten class and 1st-5th grade room as well.

In prek/kindergarten room the opening session looked different to start this year. Kids will be meeting in their room to start and will be having the whole hour on their own as the do worship, story time, and small groups together. While this is a change for them, they are continuing to dive into the redemption story of God's Word. Before break, the younger kids were going through the birth of Jesus and the importance of that amazing event! Last night they moved into the beginning of Jesus' ministry. They looked at the story of John the Baptist preparing the way for Jesus, proclaiming the one to come. Then they dove into the start of Jesus' teachings in Luke 4:14-21. Jesus is the one who has come to save us from our sins! He is the good news that the people have been waiting for. As the prek/kind kids continue to look into the life of Jesus and what He came to do, please continue to pray that they would see this great love story unfold. That God has sent His son into the world for us!

1st-5th grade - Last night we started a new curriculum for the older kids on Wed. nights. This is curriculum is called 252 Basics and is set up in series of 3-5 weeks. Each week in a series will revolve around one main theme. The start of this year is surrounded on the theme of Powering Up Self Control. Week 1 we looked at Proverbs 25:28 “A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls”. In ancient times, the city without walls was exposed to harsh elements and cities that could conquer them. When we talk about protecting ourselves, a lack of self-control exposes us to danger. Our Bottom Line for last night was: God can give you the power to control yourself. There are so many distractions in our lives today, and we want kids to start the month realizing they can lean into God’s power to help them demonstrate self-control. The next four weeks we will be looking at different situations and ways that can help us learn and grow when it comes to self-control.

If there are any questions, if you would like to know more about what is going on during Wednesday nights, or if you would like to know more about how you can be involved, please contact me anytime!

Greetings

Last night was filled once again with joy, excitement and energy!! The total number was at 66 from pre-k through 8th grade! As our Wednesday nights continue to grow, we are also looking for more volunteers to come help out on Wednesday nights. Here are a few of the needs we do have:
2-4 hosts a night - welcoming families as they come in and helping out with the registration process.
2-4 pre-opening volunteers - organizing an activity/game as the kids begin showing up around 6:30 (this would be from 6:25 - 6:45)
3-5 small group leaders - Our goal is to have 2 adults with each small group. Investing in the same small group each week, forming a connection for each child.
2-4  pre k - kindergarten helpers - Responsibilities would include helping kids during small group time, large group assistance with students needing extra attention and bathroom runs.
If you are interested in volunteering during our king's kids - even if for a set period of time - please let me know via email, phone or signing up Sunday mornings!

Recap -
Last night the children went through two main points. First, there was an overview of the truth that "All have fallen short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). As a result of our sin, there is a punishment - death. However, in the midst of our sin, we see that we have a merciful God! Which is great news for us! Last night, we got to the heart of where we are going with this Curriculum - redemption through Christ. God requires a "covering" for our sin. And just as He provided Adam and Eve with a covering, God has also provided a way for us as sinners to come to Him. We see the kindness our God shows to us. Even when we do not deserve His love and kindness, God extends His mercy! So as we see God's desire of love, we are encouraged to turn from deciding what is right for ourselves, and trust that God (who is kind, merciful, and loving) knows what is best and right for our lives.

As we continue to move through the story of redemption, please continue to pray for our kids on Wednesday night. Pray that they would continue to grow in relationship with one another, and in relationship with God! Pray for the volunteers that we do have, asking for God's strength, patience, love and wisdom would work in their life! Pray for our continued need for volunteers on Wednesday nights. Ask for the support we need to continue to influence, teach, equip and love our kids each week!!

If you have any questions or would like to know more about volunteering or what is going on during King's Kids, please feel free to get in contact with me via email or phone!

September 30, 2015

Greetings,

Last night we once again grew in number to a total of 46 in the children's ministry and 16 middle school students! What a blessing to continue seeing the excitement and growth happening here at King of Glory.

Last night, our students went through "The Fall". Being reminded that we were created in God's image to trust and obey in Him. However, there was a crafty serpent who entered the garden and convinced Adam and Eve that God had lied to them and tried to keep something good from them. "6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise,[b] she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate." (Genesis 3:6). As a result of their actions, life as they knew it was changed. Verse 7 says their eyes were opened. Sin came in and created an instant change in the lives of Adam and Eve. Once God returned, we see that there is a further punishment for their disobedience. We see that sin eventually leads to death.
The good news for us is that this story doesn't end here! The mystery continues. As we continue on in King's Kids, we will see that God has a plan to fix the problem we have created for ourselves. We will continue to see the redemptive work of God as we go through the Old Testament leading up to Jesus Christ!

As your students continue to grow and learn the work and plan that God has for them, I would ask that you would continue to pray for them! Pray that God's Word would continue to soak into their life as the grow in the depth and knowledge of who God is and what God has done for us! Please also pray for our volunteers that are giving their time to teach and walk alongside your students during Wednesday nights. And finally, continue to pray for one another as you go through parenthood together. Pray for wisdom, strength and patience as you are the examples your children look up to.

If there are any questions, if you would like to know more about what is going on Wednesday nights, or if you would like to come join the volunteer team please feel free to contact me through email or phone.

September 23, 2015

Greetings,

To start off, I want to start by praising God for the continual growth of our King's Kids program. Last night we had 42 children and 14 middle school students here! What an awesome experience as we continue to grow in a multi-cultural program. Here are a few example of the excitement:
"I was overjoyed with seeing how excited the kids were to gather with their small groups!  One little girl said "yes!!!!" when it was time to break up into groups.  What a great opportunity for them to grow spiritually!  We have awesome small group leaders and the kids already seem to have connected well!
I also saw the excitement on one boy's face as he approached me to show how many punches he already had for memory work!  It's not just a completed assignment for which we can be proud of.  It's knowledge that will be forever stored in their memory banks and will go with them through their lives.  It maybe something that helps get that individual through a really rough time.  Or maybe it will be something that they share with someone else someday.  That has eternal rewards!  Yeah!"
"One of the younger girls in my small group was so excited to open up her bible and search for the passage we were going through. It was so fun teaching her what the "big" and "small" numbers in the bible represented."

Last night, your students went through the story of creation. The first point brought us to the understanding that God is the Sovereign Ruler of all of creation. It is through Him and because of Him that there is life here on earth. Then, we see the special relationship God intended for us as humans to experience with Him. We are set apart from all other creation because God made us in His image! What an amazing truth that shows us that we are valued! As a response, we are now called to love, trust, and obey God - the creator of all! As we continue to move through the redemption story of scripture, our students will see this value and love God has for us continue to be reveled through the stories and promises of scripture.

I ask that you would go to prayer for 3 things. First, pray for our volunteers who are here to be an example and light for the children on Wednesday nights. Ask God for the continued strength, leadership, energy, and love of God to be present in them as they give up their time and energy! Second, pray for your children who are learning so much. Pray that they would continue to grow in maturity and knowledge of our Creator, Lord, and Savior. Finally, pray for one another as parents as you go through this journey of parenthood together. Pray that God would strengthen you as parents and give you the tools to walk alongside your children in the journey of faith.

If there are any questions or if you would like more information on what is going on during our King's Kids, feel free to contact me through email or phone!

April 17, 2015

Good Morning,

What a blessing to have 7 International Outreach Ministries children join us last night at King's Kids!  The volume for singing praise songs increased a notch!  Incorporated into the evening was some community building games with the purpose of building relationships with our new friends.

Our lesson last night was about the reconciliation of Peter as Jesus makes breakfast by the sea for his disciples.  Scripture passage was John 21:1-19 and John 13:37-38.  This is a powerful lesson for children to know that we all sin.  But because of what Jesus did for us on the cross, He seeks us out.  And when we come to him with our "wrong stuff", he restores us to Himself and we are righteous in His sight!

The countdown to Shine Kid's Camp has begun.  Those children registered in the month of April will receive a cd of this year's Go Fish songs.  Volunteers are also encouraged to sign up.  Our decorating team has put up a registration table, so you can now either register or sign up to volunteer online or by filling out one of the forms at the table.

As we wind down the year, please be sure to thank our amazing children's volunteers who so faithfully shine Jesus light each week!

In His Name,
Julie

"You are the light of the world, like a city on a hill, glowing in the night for all to see.  Don't hide your light under a basket!  Instead put in on a stand and let it shine for all!"  Matthew 5:14-15

February 5, 2015

It felt like home!  The kids seemed much more settled in last night to their new surroundings.  I want to first thank you, parents, for responding to my request last week to the check-in and out procedures!  We want to insure that everything is done for your child's safety while they are in our care.  We began the evening putting actions to the 1st 5 commandments to go with our song.  Ask your child if they can do them for you.  It will also be a helpful tool for you in teaching the 10 commandments to your children.  One of our preschool children recited for me the 10 commandments.  It only takes a little time on your part, and the reward is everlasting!

Here are a few important items for your attention:

        1.  King's Kids During Wednesday Worship Services:

  • There will be King's Kids next Wed., February 11.
  • There will be no King's Kids on Ash Wednesday, February 18.  There will be King's Kids during the remaining 5 weeks of services beginning February 25.  We will meet in the Adult Classroom.  We will be serving Pizza meal during these 6 Wed. services.  A sign-up for meal will be on the Sunday connection card and on-line.  Please do help us to make sure we have enough food by using the sign-up or calling the church office at 271-3456 by the Monday before each Wed. service.
  • Also, during this time of Wed. services, the 4th & 5th grade students will be joining our Middle School.  This will be an opportunity for them to get to know Doyle, Student Ministries Coordinator, and the middle school students.  The 5th grade students will remain with the MS after this time as they make the transition to MS and the summer MS activities.  The 4th grade children will come back to King's Kids.

       2.  1st Communion Reminder:  Last class is February 25 at 5:30pm (time change).  Children will need to go to Color Me Mine to paint their communion chalis by February 18th so they can be fired and picked up to be available for 1st communion on March 1.

       4.  Go4Gold Family Event - The sign-up for this is on the church website and connection card beginning this Sunday.  Hope you all can join us for this great fellowship opportunity!

       5.  MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2015 - Dates are set for May 31 through June 4, 2015!  This is always a favorite for kids and adults alike.  If you would like to join the fun in planning and preparing this year's VBS, please let myself or Sarah Marohl know.

Please remember to be praying for the King's Kids Leaders & Kid's Worship Leaders as they minister to the children!  I encourage you to find a way to express your thanks to them also for their time and commitment to the Lord and to King of Glory's Children's Ministries!

Onward,
Julie

    January 29, 2015

We started last night with a few technical difficulties.  Always a learning curve with new equipment and new surroundings.  But is was fun to see the excitement on the children's faces as they came to our new home! Laurie introduced two fun activities during large group time regarding folding paper and all the kids forming a chain, locking arms and traveling around the room with someone always having to be touching the wall!  Such great team work and lots of laughter!  Our lesson was about the Mighty Power of our God and our need to stay connected to Him who is our power source.

Here are a few reminders as we move into a new location and other important news:

           1.  CHILD SAFETY:  The Children's Ministry team and our Volunteer Leaders want to provide a safe and secure environment for the children who attend Kid's Worship and King's Kids.  With the move and to improve on safety matters, we are reminding parents of a few details on check-in/out procedures as well as implementing a few new things.  I know most of you feel safe as we all know each other, however, we are expecting God to grow our family with new faces and we want to be prepared for visiting parents to know that their children are safe and secure as well.

    •   King's Kids - Parents are required to check-in their child each evening before the child can enter the multipurpose room (the check in table will be in the gathering area by multipurpose entrance).  We will begin staffing the check-in/out table 15 minutes prior to start and end of our evening to assist with any needs.  When you come to check out your child, you will be told where to pick up at. (This may very from time to time and different small groups may end in different places than we start).  Children will not be allowed to leave their small group till a parent (or designated person) comes to get the child.
    • Kid's Worship - Right now this will remain the same with children beginning at service and then escorted to Kid's Worship (in student ministries room) and then brought back after the sermon to parents.  There will be changes coming next Fall to improve on safety as growth occurs.
    • Nursery - On Sunday mornings we will have a new check-in/out system in the Nursery Room.  Parents will need to fill out a form, peel and put info on child's back.  They will take the other part of the form with them which will have coordinating # to bring back to Nursery volunteer when ready to check out.

            2.  King's Kids and Lent:

    • There will be no King's Kids on Ash Wednesday, February 18.  There will be King's Kids during lent beginning on Wednesday, February 25.  We will meet in the Adult Classroom for the next 5 weeks ending March 25.  We will be serving Pizza meal during Lent to make it easy for families to attend Lenten activities.  A sign-up for meal will be on the Sunday connection card and on-line soon.

           3.  1st Communion Reminder:  1st class for child and parent(s) is Wed., February 4 at 5:45pm.
           6.  I AM VERY EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE that Sarah Marohl has agreed to serve as our Children's Ministry Leader!  With the New Organizational Structure approved by congregation, you will be hearing more about her role soon.  Sarah has a passion for children and her strong faith, leadership skills and desire to partner with parents and the staff is sure to make a great impact for Kingdom work at King of Glory!  I can't wait to work with her, the children's ministry team, and parents in 2015!

WOW!  Lots going on!  Exciting times!  All for God's Glory!

      January 22, 2015

Last night was the last night at the Seminary!  I know the children are excited to be in their new surroundings because when I asked them if they remembered any news I gave them last week, it was the first thing they said.  So if you happen to start driving to the Seminary next Wednesday, I am assured that your children will tell you that you are going the wrong way!  We will be doing some light housecleaning this coming Saturday.  We also need to get a start at putting together the Nursery, which will mean some cleaning of toys.  If you have a few hours beginning at 8am, please join us.  You will get the first opportunity to see our new home!

We introduced the 10 commandment song last night.  It won't be long before you will hear them singing or humming the tune at home.  I pray you will take this opportunity to teach the commandments to your children.  We can do it for you, but it is proven that if the teaching is done by you and reinforced by the church, it will leave a much greater impact on their lives.  If you did not get a copy of the handout resource for teaching the commandments, they will be available at the check-in table.

1ST COMMUNION REMINDER:  The first instruction class for 1st communion will be Wed., February 4.  This session is for any 4th or 5th grade student upon parental discretion.  If you have a younger child who you feel is ready, or an older child who has not received 1st communion yet, please speak with Pastor Rich.  It is required that a parent(s), or guardian, be at the session with the student as they will receive homework to complete before the last instruction session on February 25.  The 1st Communion Celebration will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2015.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Don't forget to mark your calendars for the Go4Gold Family event to be held on Friday evening, February 27th, from 6-8pm.  There will be a sign-up on the Sunday connection card coming soon!

See you soon at our New Home!

      January 14, 2015

It was so good to be back for King's Kids last night!  We have just one more week at the SF Seminary and then we will be in our new home at the "Lumberyard" on Wed., January 28.  Lots of cleaning and unpacking of kid's supplies, etc. to be done.  I ask for patience in the weeks ahead as we settle in and make adjustments to create the best experience for our King's Kids!  Also pray for our King's Kids and Kid's Worship leaders as they make the changes and adjust to new surroundings.  We have a great team of volunteers who love the Lord and desire to know, love and care for the children who attend.

As we move into the 2nd half of our year of King's Kids, we will be turning our focus to partnering with you in helping your children learn the 10 commandments.  We will be singing a song of the commandments.  In the beginning of the year, you received a hand-out for you to use with your children.  If you did not receive one or would like another copy, I will have them available next week at the check-in table.  I pray you will use this opportunity to teach your children the commandments and their meaning, as we assist with learning in song each week to reinforce what you are doing at home.  The children will earn punches and a gift for those who complete this goal.

Mark your calendars for Friday, February 27 for a great night of fun, friendly competition, and food for the entire family at the Go4Gold Event at the new facility.  You will be hearing more details and have the opportunity to sign-up in the weeks ahead.

My God fill your home with His Love, Wisdom, and Peace this week!

      December 11 Update

Christmas Break is here for King's Kids.  Kid's Worship on Sundays will continue since Christmas is not on the weekend.  The UnFrozen Event is just a few days away!  A reminder that the event is at The Point is to Serve, located on N. Kiwanis Ave. near Thunder Road.  The event starts at 5pm with skits, worship, singing and lots of food!  Your children will sit with you and be directed to come to the stage at the appropriate time to sing their song.  Towards the end of the evening, make sure to take your kids over to the craft table to make a special ornament keepsake!  If your child or youth has a speaking part, please have them arrive by 4:30 so we can give some instructions to them since they have not been able to practice in this setting.  If your HS student is in the skit, they need to come at 2pm on Sunday as we will be doing a final run-through.

I want to wish you a blessed Christmas Season filled with love and joy as you celebrate Jesus with family and friends!

      December 4 Update

What a great night back at King's Kids last night!  I am excited for the children to sing their song for you at the Christmas event!  They have done an amazing job in a short time!  Last night the children learned from Luke 2:41-52.  Jesus was 12 and on a trip with his parents to the temple to celebrate the passover festival.  They lost him for a bit and when they found him, the teachers in the temple were asking Jesus questions and He was teaching them by answering their questions!  We learned that we too learn about Jesus by asking questions.

Reminders for UnFrozen Christmas Event on Sunday, December 14

      • All actors and children with speaking part for the UnFrozen event have a practice this Sunday, December 7, 2014 at 9:00am.
      • If we need to schedule another run through, we may do this on the day of the event asking them to arrive by 3pm so they can see what to do in those surroundings.  So tentatively keep that in mind for December 14.
      • If we do not schedule another practice,  All skit actors and speaking participants will need to arrive at 4:00pm for sound check, directions, etc.

      Other reminders:

      • King's Kids will have it's final night of the year next Wed., December 10th.  We will resume after Christmas on January 7, 2015.
      • Kid's Worship will continue each Sunday through December into the New Year.

Please be in prayer for the children at King of Glory and their families.  And pray for our leaders who are sharing Christ's love each week!

      In His Name,

      Julie

      November 19 Update

The anticipation of our UnFrozen Christmas night on December 14th is growing as the children had their pictures taken for a special craft project they will be able to do during the event.  A reminder to parents of 4th and 5th grade children who have been assigned a speaking part to please have your child practice reading to you.  Also, we will be having a practice on Sunday, December 7th, at 9am, at the Seminary upstairs.  Everyone who has a speaking part is asked to be at this if possible.  If your child has a part and is unable to be at this practice, please let me know.  We will provide bagels, donuts & juice this morning and will be done before the 10:15am service.

Our lesson last night was Matthew 3:13-17; Jesus is baptized.  The children learned that Jesus obeyed God and when we follow what God says, it pleases Him.  There is no King's Kids next Wed., November 26!  See you on December 3rd.

As you pray with your child, please continue to lift up Kyran, our King's Kids sponsor child from Robins' Nest in Jamaica.  Thank you for the offerings given each week to spread God's love across the world!

      Wishing you a Blessed Thanksgiving,

      Julie

      November 12 update

The children are working on a song called "I Believe" to sing at the December 14th UnFrozen Christmas Event.  I hope you all can join us for this Sunday evening for a special night of food, drama, the Christmas story, and singing.  Some of the 4th and 5th grade students have some reading parts.  Parents, please have your children practice with you.  They do not have to memorize, but we would like them to know and speak it well so our audience will hear the message.

Last night we began a new unit called "Snow Day"  We will be looking into Jesus birth and early ministry over Nov. & Dec.

      Blessings,

      Julie
