As King's Kloset prepares for its first distribution in its new facility on Saturday, June 21, some changes will occur in order to try and fulfill the mission of the ministry even better.
Beginning with June's distribution, King's Kloset will switch to a shopping experience where family members may choose five items from a selection of nine items. Previously, families were given a bag of household necessity items that were determined by King's Kloset.
"This shopping experience is meant to empower people as they are in a position of making decisions and help them be intentional about thinking what their family needs," said Katie Reilly, Missions trustee.
This change in distribution style will create a change in what is needed from the King of Glory congregation. The first change is what items will be needed on a monthly basis. Until now, there were two or three Items of the Month that people were asked to bring. Beginning in July, the three items will remain the same. Those items are shampoo, men's and women's deodorant and single-packaged paper towels.
"If you think about the 190 families we have been serving, we need all of us to be intentional about picking up these items so we have enough items to give out each month," Reilly said. "Our congregation is roughly 90 households so if we all can think of at least blessing two families each month we will have enough items."
Another change that King's Kloset leaders foresee is an increased number of volunteers needed to serve on distribution days. Previously, between 10-15 volunteers were needed, however that number has been increased to 20 beginning in June.
