How does God’s definition of love differ from the cultural understanding of love (i.e. love when you feel like it)?
The list of love’s characteristics mentioned in 1 Cor. 13:4-7a are intense. Which characteristics are most challenging to you? Which characteristics come more naturally for you? Why?
With whom or in what circumstances are you challenged most when it comes to loving as 1 Corinthians 13 encourages us?
Love is emphasized as of supreme importance because it is permanent for eternity. How should knowing this motivate us to a life of love in our current context?
Describe a time when you experienced genuine love from someone. How did that affect your relationship with them and your life at that time?
Read Romans 8:31-39: How would you summarize or describe the “love of God”?
What makes it difficult or has made it difficult for you to know, experience, or believe in this “love of God”?
How can experiencing God’s love put you in the proper position to extend that love to others? In other words, why is it important to receive God’s love in order to share that love with others?
