The King of Glory Men's Ministry team will be reading and studying the book Quiet Strength by former NFL coach Tony Dungy on Saturday mornings beginning March 2.
The study will be held on Saturdays from March 2 until April 13, except March 30, at 9 a.m. at the Sycamore Center.
Jeff Herreid and Mike Flyger will lead the study and discussion.
In order to have the right number of books for everyone, men are asked to register for the Bible study by filling out the sign-up sheet at the Welcome Table on Sunday mornings. Or you can contact Randy Rehling at email@example.com.
As part of the study, the group will read the book Quiet Strength and also use the Bible study guide that accompanies it.
Known for his quiet demeanor on and off the field, Dungy enjoyed a successful playing and coaching career in the NFL. A defensive back, Dungy originally signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers and played on the team that won Super Bowl XIII. He also played for the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Giants during his career.
After spending 15 seasons as an assistant coach in the NFL, Dungy accepted his first NFL head coaching job in 1996 when he took over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He coached the Buccaneers for five seasons, guiding the team to four playoff appearances. Although he was fired after the 2001 season, Dungy is considered a key reason why the Buccaneers won Super Bowl XXXVII in 2002.
Dungy went on to become the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts in 2002. He coached the Colts for seven seasons and led the team to the playoffs every season, including a victory in Super Bowl XLI in 2006. That victory came after one of the most difficult times in Dungy's life, the suicide of his 18-year-old son in 2005.
Dungy retired from coaching in 2008 and is now a broadcaster, author and public speaker. He is open about his faith and has started various mentoring programs.
Quiet Strength was first released in 2007 and spent 32 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller List, including 27 weeks in the top 10 among non-fiction hardcover books.
